Is there a Hollywoodbets app, and where do you get it?

Yes — three builds exist, and only two of them come from an app store. The Android version is not on the Google Play Store; it is an APK you download from the Hollywoodbets website. The iPhone version sits on the Apple App Store under the South African listing "Hollywoodbets - Sport & Casino App" (id6741758037) — do not confuse it with the separate UK listing "Hollywoodbets UK" (id1665911627), which serves a different market. Huawei devices get the app through the Huawei AppGallery. Hollywoodbets' own post on X states the app is live on the Huawei AppGallery, the Apple App Store and Android, which matches what the store listings show. Everything else — version number, file size, minimum OS — varies from site to site, so the table below shows the main figure and the other numbers quoted.

Requirements by platform

Hollywoodbets itself states no version number or file size, so treat any single figure below as indicative and check the file size on the download screen before you install. The last column lists other figures published for the same field.

Hollywoodbets publishes no RAM requirement or free-storage requirement for any of the three builds.

How to install the Hollywoodbets APK on Android

The APK route exists because Google Play does not carry real-money betting apps for South Africa in the normal way, so the operator distributes the file itself. That also means every safety check that Play would run is now yours to run: file size, download URL and permission list.

1. Open the Hollywoodbets website in your phone browser and go to the app download page — the APK is not on Google Play, so do not search for it there.
2. Check your Android version first in Settings → About phone. Android 10.0 or newer is the stated minimum; older devices fail with a parse error.
3. Tap the download link and let the file save to your Downloads folder.
4. Check the downloaded file size before opening it. The published figure is 39.89 MB; other sites list 34.98 MB and 78.49 MB, so treat anything under 20 MB or wildly over 80 MB as a reason to stop and re-download from the site directly.
5. Open the file. When Android blocks it, follow the on-screen notice and grant "Install unknown apps" to the browser you downloaded with — not to a file manager you did not use.
6. Tap Install, then Open when it finishes.
7. Turn the "Install unknown apps" permission back off in Settings → Apps → Special app access after installing.
8. Open Settings → Apps → Hollywoodbets → Permissions and read what it actually holds. Location, storage and notifications are normal for a betting app; SMS, contacts and call log access are not, and an APK asking for them did not come from the operator's site.
9. Confirm the installed version in Settings → Apps → Hollywoodbets → App details. Write it down — the APK will not auto-update, because there is no Play Store entry to update it.

How to install on iPhone

How to install on Huawei

This path matters more in South Africa than in most markets. Huawei phones shipped without Google Mobile Services have no Play Store at all, so AppGallery or a direct APK are the only two ways onto the device — and since Hollywoodbets does not use Play Store distribution anyway, the Huawei route is not a downgrade here.

1. Open AppGallery on your Huawei device and search for Hollywoodbets.

3. Free about 45 MB of storage; the published download size is 44.3 MB, the largest of the three builds.
4. Tap Install and wait for AppGallery to finish.
5. Sign in with your Hollywoodbets account details.
6. Download the Android APK from the Hollywoodbets website instead if your Huawei device is older and runs Android without HarmonyOS 4 — that build needs Android 10.0+ and is 39.89 MB. Follow the APK steps above, including turning the unknown-sources permission back off.

Data-free access: what Hollywoodbets says

Hollywoodbets doesn't say the app is zero-rated in South Africa. Two competing operators run data-free versions of their sites, and it is a normal ZA feature, but neither Hollywoodbets' own pages nor its X post announcing the app across Huawei, Apple and Android states that the app or a specific domain is zero-rated on Vodacom, MTN, Telkom or Cell C.

What is worth knowing regardless: zero-rating in South Africa is per-domain and applied by the mobile network, not by the app. An app installed on your phone still pulls odds, live scores and images over your data connection, and a data-free arrangement would only ever cover specified hosts — not video streams, not third-party casino content, and not the initial download. That download itself costs you data once: 39.89 MB on Android, 44.3 MB on Huawei, 28.8 MB on iOS. Do it on Wi-Fi.

If data cost is the reason you want the app, check with your network first, and check on the operator's own site rather than on an affiliate page. Any page telling you the app is definitively data-free should be showing you the network and the zero-rated hostname. If it is not, it is guessing.

App versus the mobile site

When the app will not install, update or log in

Install fails on Android. A "parse error" almost always means the OS is below the stated minimum of Android 10.0 — check Settings → About phone before blaming the file. "App not installed" on a device that already has Hollywoodbets usually means the new APK carries a different signing key from the installed one; Android refuses to overwrite it. Uninstall the old app first, then install the new APK, and expect to sign in again afterwards. If the download itself stops short, compare the file size against the published 39.89 MB — a partial file will not open.

It does not update. Nothing on Android will update it for you. There is no Google Play listing, so there is no auto-update channel: you go back to the Hollywoodbets site and download the current APK yourself.
